The two companies announced that autonomous trucks will travel an average of 40 kilometers every day, while the vehicles will be used on 50 different intersections. Autonomous trucks have been test-driving deliveries since November 2018, helping to deliver more than 60,000 packages during the country's busiest shopping season, from Singles Day to Chinese New Year.
Commenting on this technology developed by FABU, FABU CEO Xiaofei said that carriers' investment in vehicles will be balanced in the "long term" with savings in operating costs.
China Post, which has a transport fleet of 39 thousand vehicles, did not disclose how many autonomous vehicles it will start using.
These deliveries made by autonomous vehicles are also on the agenda of US-based transportation companies; however, it is not used as widely as expected yet. Amazon is testing the Scout Pilot in Washington, while FedEx is testing the FedEx SameDay Bot.
